Show tracks for Sat. Dec. 25/10 - The Christmas Rewind!

Let me guess, you're off to the mall to enjoy Boxing Day deals, return gifts and use those gifts cards you got yesterday. Not me, the malls will be insane in the membrane today...lol

It's heeeeeeere! CJAM 99.1FM Pledge Drive for 2010.

Hello family, friends and supporters;

The pledge drive at CJAM for 2010 is underway. It's the one time a year that we ask you, the listener, to support the daily quality programming here at CJAM 99.1 FM.I hope you will call me during my show, Cowboys & Indies (tomorrow), Saturday between 10pm - midnight and make a pledge. The show will be live as usual and in the Rewind! style.

The phone numbers for you to call are in Windsor 519-971-3630 and in Detroit 313-963-6112 ext 3630. Operators will be available to take your pledge and give some cool CJAM swag as a thank you.

For those not in the Windsor/Detroit area, streaming the show online or listening through the archive at a later date you can still contribute as well. Just surf on into www.cjam.ca and click on the donate tab in the top right hand corner.This is a SAFE , SECURE way to support your favourite station in the world! Your info is not sold, used or leaked in any way, you're way too important to us!

This year’s theme is: Watt’s Up? The Rally for Reach! Some background info: In 2009, CJAM changed its frequency to 99.1 FM This altered the broadcasting range of our listening audience. While we’ve gained new supporters, we’ve also lost the ability to broadcast in areas that are home to long time listeners. A power increase from our present 500 watts to 1,000 watts, will allow us to reconnect with these listeners while expanding the reach of our broadcast areas. Our fund-raising target for 2010 is $25,000. This will help us begin the application process to the C.R.T.C. and Industry Canada while helping to pay for the necessary technical expertise and equipment required for this power increase.

That's it. Thanks for reading. I hope to hear from you live tomorrow night. Call even just to let me know that you donated through the website. I'd like to thank you in person (or voice). Thanks for supporting CJAM!

Some business first. The 2010 CJAM Pledge Drive is two weeks away. CJAM needs your assistance (your donations) once a year to help cover the cost of big expense items. This year the goal is to double our broadcast wattage. That will help CJAM reach more people in the Windsor/Detroit area. So make sure you support CJAM during any one of it's fine programs. Remember no amount is insignificant. If everyone who thought this donated just $5 we would hit our goal in the matter of days.

Was lucky enough to see Nick Lowe play in Ann Arbor on Tuesday. He rocked The Ark with his band. Amazing show. Nick still has it. And yes it is OK to like Nick Lowe!

Show tracks for Sat. Oct. 9/10

UB40 played Caesar's Coliseum here on Thursday. They were fantastic. So good I'm disappointed that they only played 1 1/2 hours. I could have gone for more. They featured a chunk of tracks off Signing Off, in anticipation for their UK dates. Didn't miss Ali (that's a compliment as to how they good they were) until Red Red Wine. The only track I wish was done a little better. Overall an amazing show. So as always we open the show with a track they played at the show (a favourite of mine as well).

Two hours doesn't last very long anymore. I ran out of time again. Didn't get to the Dinosaur Pile-Up lp, next week for sure. Of course, in just a matter of a couple weeks there be hardly any new material at all. That's OK because I've got some special Rewind! shows in the works for the lead-up to the holiday season. Stay tuned for those announcements.
Remember you can stream the show online at www.cjam.ca and download it through the archives if you missed it. I'm always open to requests. Call during the show or message me through this blog. Show tracks for Sat. Sept. 11/10

A couple quick notes to start, there were massive technical problems at CJAM for this show. The computer network was down which affected the show. There was no lp session or saved track listing available after the show. I tried my best to reconstruct it from memory (but that's not what it used to be...lol).
I think I remembered it all (jeesh I'm getting old! lol).
In fact, at the time this was written after the show, the CJAM website was not available either. So I hope the
show will be available for download at a later time when the problems are fixed.
Anyways, sorry about all this. I hope you get to hear the show.

Show tracks for Sat. Aug. 14/10

Slightly pre-empted for the second week in a row, this time for Phog Fest broadcasting.
But get used to this new start time. It seems the powers that be at CJAM have be'ed and they have decided to take away that half hour permanently.
So Cowboys & Indies will now officially start at 10pm and run until midnight.
Believe me I am not a happy camper about this. In fact, to say I am severely disappointed is an understatement.
But as a result of the shorter slot a few things about the show will have to be modified.
From this point on there will only be 1 lp session and it will be shorter. We will have to wait and see how this new time will affect the Festive 50. It is already a 2 episode event, if it looks like it will take 3 to do it I may have to revise it or drop it all together.
Don't panic, we'll just wait and see how this all plays out and go from there.
Cowboys & Indies will continue to be your home for the best in the British Indie/Alternative scene.

Show tracks for Sat. July 24/10

With the 2010 Mercury Prize shortlist being announced this week, we take a look at almost all of the finalists. Not bad, 11 of 12 finalists have been played on this show. But, there are some glaring omissions from the list.
This prize has been under scrutiny for years for some of their shortlist finalists and winners. Consider that Blur, Oasis, Verve & Radiohead all have been nominated but never won. They are responsible for some of the most influential albums of the last 15 years, not to mention sales numbers. In fact, Damon Albarn has become so disillusioned with the prize that he has withdrawn one of his albums (Gorillaz debut) and not allowed any other of his albums to be even nominated.
This year is no different. My question is where is the electronic album? That must be The XX nod. After all they did nominate 3 indie-folk albums instead of a traditional folk album.
With that, the blogosphere is alight with the omissions of their favourite albums. So in that spirit here's the albums I think they overlooked;

We Have Band - WHB (perfect electronic representative)
These New Puritans - Hidden (maybe the title confused the judges..lol)
Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History (just because I love it)
Lonelady - Nerve Up (sorry Laura M. but a more deserving album)
Nedry - Condors (inventive, fusing indie and dubstep to perfection)

With that field of finalists, I think The XX are shoe-ins. But they have gone leftfield for a winner in multiple previous years, so who knows.
Who's your pic or what albums do you think they missed. Post them I'd love to see them.

Next week will be another installment of Rewind! I'm thinking lots of 80s and 90s new wave and indie bands this time around. What do you think?
Then stick around for a special guest host on Earwax at midnight, ME!
Alex has a previous engagement so he asked me to bring my unique choices and share them with you. There will be lots of stuff I don't get to play on a British themed show.
So tune in next Saturday night for both shows.

Not to much to say this week other than "I'm melting!" I know you don't want to hear anyone complaining about the heat/humidity, but I work in it. It was over 100 degrees 4 times this week at work. Enough! I'm done. Stick the fork in and see....lol

Show tracks for Sat. July 3/10

Sad news to start;
The creator of the man with the biggest head in showbusiness, Frank Sidebottom, has died.
Sidebottom was the bulbous-headed alter-ego of comedian and musician Chris Sievey,
who eclipsed the fame of his creator. Sievey, 54, died June 21 after
collapsing at his home in Hale, Greater Manchester, where he was recovering from
surgery for a tumour on his chest.
In honour, we open with two tracks, one from his first band and one from his alter ego.

Show tracks for Sat. June 26/10 - Glastonbury Special

I decided during the week to have a little special Glastonbury show. As I went through the line-up I realized that this show would resemble half regular show and half Rewind! show.
Plus it gave me the freedom to play artists that I would not have other wise been able to play. I really dug that Gorillaz/Souljazz Orchestra/Stevie Wonder/Kode 9 set. I was groovin'.
It turned out to be the best show I have done in weeks from a behind the scenes production point of view. Sometimes a show that sounds great over the radio or the interwebs is a pain behind the scenes as things go wrong. It happens. But this one was great. Hope you enjoyed it.
