Last Of The Summer Wine! Show tracks for Sat. Dec. 8/12

Better late than never seems to be the theme for tonight's show. We have a couple releases that are new to us over here in North America but are 2 years old each in their native UK. It appears that the Fuzzbox cover of Pop Muzik is from 2010 released during their reunion concerts. The Mutineers album in the LP session was released at least 1-2 years ago but has finally made it over to us via digital download.
Does it actually feel like 32 years ago? Today is the anniversary of John Lennon's assassination. So we featured a couple of John's tracks and some covers as well. Including, the brilliant cover of Jealous Guy by Roxy Music.
Only one regular show remains in 2012. Special shows will end this year and start the next. Cowboys & Indies is part of Joe Strummer Day festivities this year. Then after that The Festive 50 countdown will end the year with a bang!
After all doesn't everybody love year end lists? Working on mine now. What are yours? Let me know via the comments.

Spirit In The Sky! Show tracks for Sat. Nov. 3/12

Sadly we start off the show with news that Jo Dunne from Fuzzbox died at the very young age of 43 after a short and sudden battle with cancer last Saturday. Scott had emailed me the news last week just as I was leaving the house. So I figured lets do this right and pay tribute on this week's show. So we open the show with 3 tracks from We've Got A Fuzzbox & We're Going To Use It. RIP Jo.

Shameless promotion time!
It's pledge drive time again. The one time that CJAM asks the loyal listeners to help support non-profit campus community radio.
This years Pledge Drive is from November 9th to the 16th. We are aiming to raise $25,000 this year.
It’s a huge goal but helps in two regards: it accounts for a part of our annual budget and it goes towards our Power Increase. Quadrupling our signal’s reach is becoming a reality with your help and support.
Every $50 donation will receive a black American Apparel t-shirt with CJAM’s headphone logo. A $30 donation gets you a music pack of your choosing. We will also have prizes from local businesses and organizations.
Our pledge drive show will be next Saturday. You can call during show times and pledge to CJAM through this show or pledge anytime at cjam.ca

Sons Of The Stage! Show tracks for Sat. Oct. 20/12

The 30 Best British Albums Of The Last 25 Years (1987 - 2012)

You sent in your favourite albums and we compiled them into a snazzy
countdown. Thanks to all who participated and sent in their lists.
The winner received the most votes overall and the most #1 placings from those who numbered their lists. A few artists fell a few places because they received votes for multiple albums. I was only allowing one entry per band because I didn't want duplicate bands in the countdown. So the album with the most votes won out.

We opened the show with a theme song to get you in the countdown mood.
Hope you enjoyed the show.

Sunlight Bathed The Golden Glow! Show tracks for Sat. Oct. 6/12

Coincidences & Covers may have well been the name of the show tonight. We featured lots of covers, some planned some not. Then there's the coincidences, like running out of printer ink the day after I run across The Grammatics cd for the first time in a long while. That cd has a track called Inkjet Lakes. Could have used a lake of ink this morning I tell you.
Another coincidence is the new Mojo featuring a free cd with indie tracks from 1982-1987 while this show is collecting peoples best album choices for the last 25 years. Submissions for that show will close Wednesday Oct.10 by the way, with the show airing Saturday Oct. 20.

Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)! Show tracks for Sat. Sept. 29/12

The music world lost a relative unknown giant this week, Frank Wilson lost his battle with prostate cancer on Thursday. Motown aficionados and Northern Soul buffs know him well, but the general public enjoyed the fruits of his labour without even knowing it. He was a writer and producer at Motown Records. He wrote and produced hit records for Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Temptations and many more. He even tried his hand at releasing his own material only to change his mind to keep writing and producing. He destroyed the single he recorded, almost all of them. Two are still in existence and fetch thousands of dollars at auction when sold. That record was Do I Love You (Indeed I Do). We open the show in tribute of Frank Wilson with some of his production work and his now famous single. RIP Frank.

We then move on the nominees for the 2012 Mercury Music Prize. We featured 10 of the 12 nominees. We start with what seems to be everyone's favourite to win it this year Alt-J(∆) and move on to my emotional pick Jessie Ware. The odds makers currently have Richard Hawley and Plan B at 4/1 to swoop the prize with Alt-J(∆) and Django Django at 5/1. There really isn't a bad album in the bunch.

Just a reminder that you can always send in your requests or comments here or email them to cowboysandindies@hotmail.com. If you're listening/streaming live you can call into the studio from Windsor at 519-971-3630 or ROW at 1-855-DIG-CJAM.

The Greatness & Perfection Of Love! Show tracks for Sat. July 21/12

"It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday 16 July at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family," a message on the website said.

We open the show with a tribute to Jon with Never Before and Kula Shaker's version of Hush.

As promised, since if I played this on the air it would offend some people's delicate sensibilities. But they can't control the blog! lol Besides the language is not that bad and it's too good not to be featured somewhere.

Smoking Like The Barrel of a Gun! Show tracks for Sat. July 7/12

Smoking indeed. One of the best shows I've done in a while.
First time in a long while that all but 2 tracks were new releases (or at least first time plays). Still had more that I could have featured. I think I need a longer show....lol

As most of the free world has heard by now, Blur have released a new single. Their last? As far as they are saying it is. We featured both tracks tonight. I was thinking of doing a whole retrospective show on Blur when their big box set is released at the end of the month. What do you think?

Father Sculptor are recording & releasing a new song every fortnight throughout the summer of 2012. Make sure you head on into their site next Monday to download it for free.

Show tracks for Sat. May 19/12

Brilliant! "I want to masticate with you" God I love this band.
Glad to have some new Lovely Eggs to feature.

My dj bag was over flowing with new releases again. And not just singles. There were as many as 7 albums tonight as well. Sadly, we didn't get to them all but we did get to The School & Zulu Winter in the proper Lp Sessions. We also featured Thee Vicars, NZCA/Lines & the new My Bloody Valentine EPs release.
Rumour has it that the remastered MBV albums are out. Although you wouldn't know it around here, not one store in the area has them yet. Are they really out Kevin? lol
The great new singles of the past few shows is really off-setting the extra prep I am being forced to do for the show. Nothing I can really get into just inter office political crap. But the Letters, Splashh, Drop Out Venus, The Vestals & the great Bobby Womack are raising the spirits for sure.

Show tracks for Sat. May 5/12

We open up tonight's show with a couple Spiritualized tracks as there were in town last night. They put on an amazing show as well. Jason and band love Detroit and Detroit loves them right back.

Then we hear that MCA Adam Yauch has past away after his long bout with cancer. The Beasties were certainly a part of my musical upbringing so to speak. I was out of high school when Licensed To Ill came out (it didn't have the same profound impact that it had on the younger teens) but it will always be a fave album of mine. But I do remember Cookie Puss being aired on CJAM in the early days. Those were the good ole days.
So we pay our respects by closing the show with Long Burn The Fire. Their musical legacy will never be forgotten.

Show tracks for Sat. Apr. 28/12

EPIC!
That's the word for the night, I think. Firstly, the new Richard Hawley looks to be an album of the year contender. We feature the second track from it tonight, a free download of the title track "Standing at the Sky's Edge".

Secondly, the long awaited debut from Clock Opera was in the LP Session. Been a while in the making and it hasn't disappointed. Stay for the whole show and we'll get into the new Gaz Coombes as well, the station got a advance, so we take advantage.
Also featured some 2012 Record Store Day layovers and some new singles like Public Service Broadcasting. It's so easy for this type of project to go horribly wrong. But this EP hits it out of the park.

Show tracks for Sat. Apr. 21/12 Record Store Day

Being a British music fan, Record Store Days are always a bit of an anti-climax being in North America. For the most part, releases just don't make it over here. The fact that some are so limited makes it even harder to track them down online. This year it was a pleasant surprise to be able to pick up 5 releases today.
Due to friends sharing some of their purchases we celebrate today by playing a large selection of them (or at least versions or other tracks by the same artists).
Maybe one year I'll be able to enjoy a Record Store Day in the UK and go nuts shopping.

There were some regular new releases as well like the new Primitives single. Been waiting a while for this one and it didn't disappoint.
